Finland will transition to high-definition (HD) television broadcasting from the beginning of April.

The change means standard-definition (SD) broadcasts will come to an end from 31 March on Yle channels, and from 30 June on other stations.

This will in particular affect viewers who watch television via a terrestrial or cable network.

According to Traficom, Finland's transport and communications agency, some 100,000 Finnish households do not yet have an HD-capable TV set.

Digita, the network operator for wireless communications, advised terrestrial television households to check that their TV receivers are up to date, and are capable of receiving HD broadcasts.

"If you cannot see Yle's TV channels as of April 1, 2025, you should perform a channel search on the receiver. Most receivers will search for channels automatically. Some receivers may require a factory reset before performing a channel search," the company's press release stated.
