ELX BizDesk 4.0 Review |
DesktopOS.com has published a review of ELX BizDesk 4.0: "ELX BizDesk 4.0 is the latest incarnation of a product that was first unleashed in the middle of 2002 by Hyderabad-based Everyone's Linux Pvt Ltd, who claim to be the first Indian Linux distribution company to have entered the software market. Loosely based on Red Hat Linux 9, BizDesk 4.0 is designed primarily for corporate users who are looking for a drop-in replacement for Microsoft Windows and Office. Although ELX products receive the occasional mention in the wider press, a comprehensive review has not been undertaken since at least 2002. So what is BizDesk like in the year 2004, two years on? ELX kindly sent us a copy so we could find out." The full review with screenshots.

Distribution Release: ELX Linux 1.0 BizDesk |
The ELX Linux project has released ELX Linux 1.0 BizDesk edition: "ELX Business Desktop 1.0 (or BizDesk) is a small foot print, single CD install version of ELX. Unlike PowerDesktop which provides powerful environment for server users and developers, BizDesk is aimed for business or home users." This is a freely downloadable, light version of the distribution's commercial offering, stripped of server and development tools as well as disabled auto-updates, but with the added bonus of KDE3. A great way to try the product before any financial commitment. Get it here: LIGHT.ISO (597MB). On a related note, ELX Linux has stopped accepting further orders for the 1.0 PowerDesktop product, citing lack of stock and promising a new release soon. Watch its purchase page for further updates.

Distribution Review: ELX |
NewsForge reviews ELX Linux: " The developers in Hyderabad have done a great job in creating this very Windows-like, complete distribution. In fact, they've done such a great job that during my use, a virus tried to install itself on my system. After realizing it was dealing with Linux, it promptly apologized and left without causing any damage. For you serious types out there, that was a joke. On a more serious note, I'll say that although ELX is still at a development stage and does have its problems, this promises to be one of the better newbie-friendly distributions available."
