Ooooo yayy! What's this legacy sequel format that's out of fashion (right now, in 2015, obviously) I hope this film doesn't hypothetically incite the trajectory of template imitators whom (hypothetically, will) bleed the creativity well dry in search of yielding a $2000000000 return. Excessive activity has damaged the structural integrity of the creativity well. Well, we just don't actually need to be creative anymore, just feature the creations of others, say its an homage, and be absolved of any legal…
The last scream that I truly enjoy is (coincidentally) Wes' final entry. Poor opener that didn't interest me beyond the first time I watched it, the movie took a while to get going. Jill was a wet blanket, and then she wasn't, so that was a relief. Scream 4 feels the most out of place for the franchise, and with the inevitable release of Scream 7, this is going to feel increasingly more of a standalone chapter in the timeline. The potential for Kirby to return may tether the relevancy of the films events to the franchises continued trajectory.
This was a good surprise.
If you're intrigued (and scared) by subtle, peripheral easter-egg jump scares a-la-hereditary, this definitely fits the bill.
Oh, and it actually has compelling, realised characters with quality writing!
