    as a theatre director, this film is unhinged (this is not how professional theatre works). as a hopeless romantic who loves monster movies, this film is a gift.

    it’s wild to me that i was originally introduced to this film as a kid through a comedic skit on the original jack benny radio show……

    not my favorite of wilder’s films, but one that handles alcoholism and addiction with a surprising amount of nuance and compassion for the 1940s.
