  charles pierce you son of a bitch you’ve done it again

  but really, this is a pretty good piece of historical embellishment from the same awesome dude who made the legend of boggy creek. this is better than boggy creek in all the technicalities, though not a story that’s charming at all.
  ben johnson is very ben johnson in this and it’s great. pierce includes some really weird moments of humor, especially in the character of spark plug, an incompetent…

  i’m writing this review at the beginning of the final act. did want to keep watching past the first but clearly i think i’ll live forever.

  Well, my goodness. This is exactly my kind of movie. Folk shit, Appalachian blood debt stuff. Resiliency in the face of tragedy, self-sufficiency in duress, hope that has no reason to exist. These are good and instructive themes to explore and this joint does that examination beautifully and with an appropriate amount of toughness and skill. Wow. I don’t want to oversell it. I want more of it, and that’s something.
