  A24 and Timothée Chalamet brought me here. Wanted to love it but the film was terribly derivative. Just watch Goodfellas instead.

  Something Wild 1961

  Something Wild is something, alright. A film with controversial subject matter made even more intense by its slow pacing, Director Jack Garfein wants us to feel just as unsettled as Mary Ann does. Although painful to watch at times, Garfein’s directing, coupled with Eugen Schüfftan’s glorious cinematography, good performances by Carroll Baker and Ralph Meeker, the cool opening title sequence by Saul Bass, and a truly wild ending, make Something Wild something worth remembering.

  Bette Davis is magnificent. I really got wrapped up in this film and appreciated the nonconventional love story. “Oh Jerry, don’t let’s ask for the moon. We have the stars.”
