    Once again, life in 1950s America looks like just the absolute pits. 
    And a 50s Catholic university? I think I’d rather take my chances in the Korean War.

    Anyway Indignation is an admirable film. Handles its characters with a lot of respect, never reducing anyone to a caricature. Sarah Gadon and Logan Lerhman are both very good, playing quiet rebels, taking their less than ideal forced environments with mostly good nature, but smiting beneath the surface. 
    Tie goes to Sarah though as she really feels true to the time.

    The story telling is a bit messy - characters are abruptly jettisoned and plot lines introduced with some real whiplash. 
    But I do admire that it didn’t offer any easy answers. It’s pretty much about 3 women looking for men to fill an emptiness in their lives. Some of the dudes are disasters, others appear to be Prince Charming, only to reveal themselves as… also disasters. Plays with the idea that life isn’t a puzzle - pieces never fit exactly…

    So… it’s interesting. First Mia Hanson Love film for me. And I dig her style. She seems to be all about realism and building stories around emotion rather than big story beats. I mean, the stakes couldn’t be lower here - we follow a married filmmaker couple as they travel to Ingmar Bergman’s hometown to spark inspiration for their new respective projects.     Uhhh, hey Letterboxd, why isn’t Toby Huss (who plays the coroner) included in the cast here? The man voiced Cotton Hill on King of the Hill and played the drunk limo driver in Curb. Show some respect.
