Public Toilet Africa 2021
Despite its occasionally clumsy storytelling there is much to enjoy in this lively, humane and, sometimes, fierce dive into the Ghanaian (and wider) diaspora. Debutante film maker Kofi Ofosu-Yeboah weaves his stories of revenge, scandal, injustice and palm wine together mostly successfully but it is in the whole that the film shines, to stand back and take in its entirety is how Public Toilet Africa (Amansa Tiafi) works its magic.

When I think about middle-of-the-road movie-making in future, I will always think of Hidden Figures and its utterly pedestrian treatment of one of the greatest untold stories of the 20th century.
For those not in the know, it's the story of how three African-American women (in particular) broke racist and sexist boundaries whilst working at NASA in 1960's Virginia. It's an incredibly positive and important story that is whiffed so badly as to be almost embarrassing.
