    a perfect movie honestly

    loved the recurring theme of smell 

    not sure how to say this in a way that isn’t pretentious and cringe but Bongs movies are so well paced to me it’s like listening to a song 

    except the second half, the end took a little too long for me 

    but loved the storylines weaved in of the debt collector and origin of the multiples

    way too on the nose in a way that felt hamhanded and condescending to the audience 

    prime example - DUH the old man in the diner is the guy who gave it to her? but let’s indicate this to viewer with the huge unmissable scar on his hand, oh and then the key card that falls out of his wallet, oh and then the scar on his spine and OH just in case you still…

    went into this with zero knowledge of the dictatorship of 1970s Brazil and left feeling fully steeped in outrage, sadness, longing, and despondence — I felt transported and fully indulged in both this family’s happiness and heartbreak, as if it were my own

    it’s so hard to put into words everything that i found beautiful about this film. the incredible shots, the raw film overlays, the mothers balance between formality and warmth, the parents’ loving and youthful relationship, the incredible casting, the list goes on 

    will be thinking about this one for a long time :’)
