did i love this movie or do i love the eighties, new york, jean michel basquiat, and debbie harry? on a metatextual level, the unreality of a redubed voice on a dead artist moving though a new york culture that has since died (while surrounded by the original recordings of the live music sequences and genuine basquiat works) has an interesting, if unintentional, commentary on the permanence of art and impermanence of circumstance.
