Was preparing to rip this movie for its super lazy script that just splits Maximus as a character into Hanno and Acacius, copy-pastes characters, their motives, and plot points, and for throwing in an anachronistic Denzel saying shit like "hose him down" and "double or quits" in ancient Rome. BUT, this movie's got a pretty redeeming third act which, not coincidentally, is when it starts to get original. Paul Mescal unfortunately doesn't shine very bright, but Denzel does in the end work his magic, but not enough to be remembered for this performance in my opinion. No one really turns in anything memorable.

The French Dispatch 2021
Really sacrificed narrative for the sake of the aesthetic, movies a how much do you love Wes Anderson test
The Tintin-like animation throughout and especially in the third feature was aweeeeesome
Movie was more like an art gallery of beautiful shots than a cohesive film I could get invested in
