I'm very picky when it comes to mystery movies, especially those that are older. I really loved Psycho though, even more so that Vertigo. I loved how Hitchcock used an unconventional storyline as it adds to the movies complex shots and dark color scheme, creating a darker, more exciting and suspenseful tone. I love how in the shower scene, Hitchcock uses closeups and an accumulation of cuts and different shot angles to create the aura that time is elapsing and that something terrible is about to happen.
An example of when Godard "breaks a rule" of filmmaking in Breathless is in the scene where Michel in sitting in his car parked in the middle of the street while two people, an unidentified man and woman walk towards the car talking. The woman looks as though to be Patricia. Godard then jump cuts to Patricia standing next to the car clearly visible spinning around with the other man who she was walking with no where in sight. It…
Moonrise Kingdom, an unconventional movie directed by Wes Anderson, uses unconventional style in its characters relationships to portray the meaning of young love in two 12 year old innocent adolescents. The two child protagonists and lovers are 12 year old sassy misfit Suzy Bishop, and Khaki Scout, Sam Shakusky, They write letters to each other which causes their feelings toward each other to blossom from strangers to lovers infatuated with each other. At the very beginning when one of the sailors comes down to the cabin and the rest of the crew is sleeping, he takes his anger out on a young sailor by hitting him on the back. The young sailor hit goes from sitting up visibly upset, to on his stomach in his hammock pouting and crying without us viewing him flip over.
