This movie is CRAZY! One could even say it was... psycho (badum tsssss). Personally, I like it as much as I like "The Birds", which is a lot. The shower scene is discussed so often that the only thing I'll say about it is: I thought it would be more intense than it was. Also, why didn't she lock the door? One of my favorite scenes is where Norman finds the body. The "hide the monster" effect is there, but…
This movie was more than great. I really loved it. I wasn't really watching it so I could notice similarities within Hitchcock films, so I didn't notice much. The classroom scene was obnoxious and I wanted the birds to come crashing through the windows and the beginning was a bit slow. Other than that, it was everything I expected it to be and more. Fantastic movie and Hitchcock's walkthrough in this one was adorable.
The second sequence I will discuss is a montage sequence that takes inspiration from eisenstein. The basic "plot" of the montage is that Lugo is running from the cops. The montage is the first scene of the film and also one of the last so yes, it is repeated. The montage both begind and ends a story, which seems like an "Eisensteinish" thing to do.
A sequence in Pain & Gain that I want to write about is where Lugo is training Victor at the gym. This sequence takes influence from Eisenstein and Godard. The sequence has jump cut type transitions that are influenced by earlier films.
