The shot of all the sheets in storage. this shot conveys the reality of post-war Italy like almost no other shot in the movie does. It conveys how desperate people were for money that they sold their sheets for some. At first, there only seems to be a few levels of sheets, then the camera tilts up and pans over a bit and the viewer sees that there are a lot more sheets.
English Assignment Post:
The film borrows a storytelling technique from german expressionist film, the Cabinet of Doctor Caligari in particular. The yet to be cliche technique of having the entire movie be a flashback. Now, this storytelling has become overused to the point of cliche, it wasn't at the time of double indemnity. The story arc is an unrealistic take on a possible series of events, borrowing some concepts from expressionism.
From when I first say this film, a long time ago in a galaxy not that far away, it struck me as a great story. An all powerful Force, lasers everywhere, the evil empire, and a galactic rebellion. At the time, I was only in 2nd grade, and it gave me hope. Hope that if the entire class worked together, we could bring the school (Empire) down.
