I enjoyed psycho but the ending surprised me when the psychologist tried to explain everything that had happened. That made psycho stand out to me from vertigo because the plot twist explained out loud. Another thing that I liked about psycho was how halfway through the film the plot changed completely from a woman being chased to murder mystery. One scene that stood out to me as very Hitchcockian was when Arbogast was murdered. Starting with the birds eye view then following Arbogast as he tumbles down the stairs.
the second sequence in side effects that was influenced by a previous film maker is about 1.5 hours into the film. The sequence is a montage that reveals very crucial plot points that takes place over months but only lasts a little over four minutes. The sequence shows the audience how and why everything previously happened .
The scene in side effects after Channing Tatum is murdered at around 50 minutes in rushes through a montage of the aftermath similar to Goddard rushing through Michele's drive to paris. The investigation which should be taking weeks altogether takes about ten minutes. I chose this sequence because we see emily dealing with the murder of her husband (that she committed while sleep walking) while her psychiatrist is possibly in trouble for prescribing a drug to her.
The sequence of shot that stood out to me as colliding was the three different shot of three different lion statues. In the first the lion is resting his head on his paws then in the next shot his head is perked up a little and finally the lion looks startled and scared. This quick sequence of shots is cut into the part when the bombing is happening and helps to show how quickly things have changed for those living there. Going from a calm peaceful day to a bad day to having your town bombed.
