Feels like lesser Herzog, which is still better than most everyone else making docs. Great footage from the Kraffts, of course, but Werner is in full grandiosity mode, with his signature deadpan narration, classical music and minor key tunes making this a mostly somber construction. He always knows how to convey a sense of uncomfortable danger and existential despair, but without it getting too depressing. Though he's covered many topics, it seems like he's really making one grand documentary about the human experience, the wonder and folly of the species.

As a chronic sufferer of nightmares, this movie hit me with a very familiar kind of anxiety. Nearly all of my nightmares, which have happened every night for as long as I can remember (I’ve stopped writing them down long ago), take place in the homes from my childhood. My old house, which I haven’t seen in 20 years, my grandmother’s house, and my great-grandmother’s house are the only settings available to that part of my psyche, I suppose. Rarely…

Not only is this the worst film in the Halloween series, Halloween Ends is legitimately one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life. I've rarely said that about any movie. That's a testament to the raw, uniquely powerful badness this movie exudes. It almost has to be awed at like the omnipotence of God.
