Throne of Blood remains my favorite Shakespeare adaptation and play of his, though I wish everyone’d cool it with Macbeth for a while. It’s The Bard. He only wrote heaters. Plenty of options for directors to choose from. Main interest in this work was investigating whether a Russian could adapt him, seeing as they have no good writers of their own (Brothers Karamazov is a crock of shit, argue with a wall, and, uh, haven’t read any Turgenev or whatever). Turns out it’s pretty good, and conforms precisely to my treeless, muddy perception of Soviet and post-Soviet Europe.

Chasing Amy 1997
It’s incredible how much more tolerable Kevin Smith’s writing becomes when competent actors deliver it. In the Heights 2021
There’s an argument to be made that film is the greatest art form because it amalgamates all the others (writing, visual art, theater, music, etc.). Any extended talking-slash-singing scene blunts all emotional impact for me, bringing every…

The History of the Seattle Mariners 2020
They took the movie down last time for some reason, no idea why. Anyway, since what I originally wrote was a little short, I thought I’d expand on it a bit this time.
The first Mariners season I can recall was 2001. I was seven years old, the team was in the midst of the greatest regular season ever played, and my dad decided to take me to my first-ever game. I only remember two things: (1) Edgar Martinez launching…
