Starts slow but once they’re in the trucks, this movie rules. Real incredible setpieces that make you go “How’d they do that?”

SOOOOOO high school but in a way that rings true. It is absolutely twee, pretentious, unsubtle, and achingly earnest—which is exactly how I and all my friends behaved and spoke as high schoolers. And the scene with Willem Dafoe in Amsterdam is such a fun reality check to the teen vibe of the rest of the film.

Augustus Waters is the rare male variant of the Magic Pixie Dream Girl.

Honestly this movie blew me away and was way better than I ever expected it to be. I know what they say about antiwar films being impossible to make because film inherently glamorizes war, but this is one of the best efforts I’ve ever seen. Not a single satisfying or cathartic action scene to be found here; just tense chaos, carnage, and horror. I loved basically every component of this movie but special shout outs to Kirsten Dunst (maybe in a career-best turn) and the unbelievable sound design.

This movie stressed me the heck out in the best possible way.

As someone with no affinity or connection at all to the source material, I was really pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this movie.
