  Truly extraordinary. A psychological horrific hypnotic vision. It gets under your skin. Brilliant direction, unforgettable images, incredible performances, impeccable cinematography, amazing art direction, sensational score.

  My one and only complaint with "The Shining" is that the timing of some of the editing early on feels off, but once it gets rolling it is flawless.

  One of the best films ever made. Nocturnal. Dreamlike. Haunting. It explores masculinity, loneliness, rejection, isolation, purposelessness, mental illness, social decay, violence, and perception. Scorsese immerses you in the seedy street life of '70s New York to great effect. You see the world through Travis Bickle's eyes and experience a man going mad. You live the nightmare with him, and see him become the nightmare. Bernard Herrmann composed an all time great score that is both beautiful and unsettled. Excellent script. Superb direction. Watch this film, meditate on it, and at all costs avoid responding the way Travis does to the darkness in the world.
