No Other Land 2024
Letterboxing a film like this feels weird. I read new articles, watch videos, talk to my Arabic friends - I think I’m informed but this film offered another level of connection. Even calling this a film feels weird, this is reality. A reality that is awful and surreal but very much reality.

The introduction of the main character came with a bang, they seemed to be the best of the best and fearless. And then for the remainder of the film you watch the continuous dismantling of that image. Throughout the main character (and the viewer) are shown that they do not belong to the world she is now operating in and that she does not possess the skills to truly survive there.

Don’t watch a trailer, don’t read an article (even this review), don’t do research, just go into this film with some popcorn and a smuggled water bottle. I wasn’t sure what type of film I was going to see, especially given other Bong Joon Ho films, but I was pleasantly delighted to be thrusted into a dark sci-fi world (with a certain similar character to today) that made me LAUGH. Also, Robert Pattinson showcased another level of his bag and further distanced himself from “Edward” of Twilight.

The Brutalist 2024
I was talking to friends recently about how everyone is “interesting” you just need to get to that point. I think this new wave of epics such as Oppenheimer and the Brutalist are finding those stories and making them into films. (Update: The Brutalist isn’t an adaption from a true story, makes it even that much impressive of a film)
