i watched this with my boyfriend (no letterboxd footprint, but he does exist) at 3 am in florence when we were jet lagged. afterwards, the anguished frescos on the hotel ceiling goaded us until mid morning.
like all of eggers work, tight & technically beautiful & toes over social mores. more full for me than his other movies, maybe bc it’s more of a meditation than a plot.
Pulpy and oversaturated - has an agenda but is so camp and with so many loose threads/themes that i think it’s naive to say it overplays its hand - or maybe that’s the point? It’s clear it was made by someone who loves movies and knows how to reference. Best scene was Demi Moore trying to leave her apartment but returning to the mirror once more to claw her make up off and trap herself in bed - this happened…
