Dares to be inventive and committed to its own experimentation. Korine himself spoke about this being post-cinema which feels true as you watch the loose narrative lose to vibes and digital manipulation but falls apart in that the most beautiful moments of this recall Brakhage and Michael Snow. All the same, he does a really impressive job of giving this the best of genre cinema (thrilling, upsetting, sleazy) and the best of the avant-garde (disorientating, surprising, evocative). Easy (and valid)…

Can we fuck our way into the profound asks The Woman, and The Man is too scared to even try.

A film in which a woman, suicidal and seeking exploration of extreme emotions to compensate, attempts to access all parts of herself not through introspection or psychoanalysis but through sexual transgression and bodily understanding. The journey is one mired with misery, failure, and repulsion.

Breillat is in a league of her own for visions of the unsettling and the unsure.

    At a loss, here. Brilliant.

    "What is the thing?"
    "Anger"

The way Lynch describes things here is key. It's the detailed way he bridges raw abstract and the palpable and it soon becomes clear that his humanity is what makes his films so emotionally satisfying.
