    In which I do can not take calling this girl "Dinky" seriously

    The script goes entirely overboard with it too. They call Ryder "Dinky" more than I've ever heard any character referred to by name, it's like they couldn't believe this shit either and had to reassure themselves.

    This is peak late-80's color-blind Francis-Fukuyama-core. It's one of those films that manages to feel triumphant and inspiring all the while completely plastering over the realities of the men who actually served in the 54th Massachusetts Infantry. It's both well acted and impressively made, but also sort of feels like an after school special.
