The Rise 2012
It is set in my home county, so I watched it. I am none the wiser for it.
It tries to be a gritty, modern, smart-as-a-whip crime flick; and, accordingly, the characters speak at a mile a minute; it does not seem to have dawned on the director that the whole loquacity thing- that which works well in trendy American crime thrillers - works considerably less well when the dialogue is delivered in flat, dry, north east English accents.

The ideas and potential interpretations in this film are far too multitudinous to cover in a short review. I will say, however, that this is one of the best films to come out of the 21st Century that I've seen.
Rendered in a cold, autumnal fresco, the rural landscapes are at once pretty and unnerving, the urban scenes are utterly repugnant.
