hot take and idea dump:
I have two real issues with Peele's execution. First, he wants to blend camp humor and profound social critique but the tonal shifts are discordant. (Which doesn't mean it's unfunny. Sometimes it's hilarious! I scream-laughed two or three times.) I think that save for Gabe's code switch -- if you saw the trailer, you know which one -- it's not really feeding into the film's overarching idea.

If you check the date on this you’ll see I did it to myself. But Garland’s decision to pull back from the reason for the conflict juuust far enough that you can’t discern which side you would be on allows the terror and cruelty of war to stick in your craw. And it’s got a lot to say about journalism as an ethical outlet for those who have a fetish for conflict. My 4 stars is too low
