Finally got around to starting this trilogy, and even with the high expectations, I was captivated. Linklater’s knack for compelling dialogue carrying the plot, the subtle examination of everyday life in Vienna, and those incredibly powerful moments of pause between our strangers in the night — all coming together so seamlessly.
Came in with high expectations, came out with a new mindset on life.
Difficult to watch at times, but it moves fast and leaves you wondering what is actually real. I personally enjoyed catching the Aronofsky similarities, but I also would have liked to come to this movie with a clean slate. However, even though the themes of Black Swan were lingering in my head as I watched, the plot of Perfect Blue was unique and intriguing/thrilling enough to convince my mind to drop the comparison game and settle in to this story. In terms of the score, the heavy industrial bits and the eerie minimalist moments were incredibly moving to me.
