Ride in the Whirlwind 1966
Doesn't reach the same heights as Monte's other western: The Shooting. It is less weird and more straightforward, not really having that many standout impactful moments. Still, like The Shooting, this film is almost more of a template in which Monte reflects 60s politics into a period genre. It is a satirical look on vigilantism and how it brings more harm than good. Our main trio are caught in a conspiracy and are forced into fighting their way out as…

The Conversation 1974
A top tier 70's political thriller, possibly the most paranoid one of all. I like how slowly Harry's live completely unravels during the duration of the film. It is an exploration of guilt that is just done so well; Harry's job has lead to so many deaths in the past, but he is still so insistent on remaining "human," with his deep religion holding back his last remaining shreds of humanity as he bugs his targets like a being who…

Hokuriku Proxy War 1977
Everything from the incredible western-like blocking and camera work, to the fun costume design which compliments its oppressively snowy setting, is so fantastically done. A little more theatrical than other Fukasaku films, but it works really well as a send off to his streak of 70s jitsuroku films. Brutal as all hell, and with excellent dialogue and a truly unique Hokuriku setting, it is a one of a kind film in my opinion.

A Woman Is a Woman 1961
Probably my favorite Godard thus far. It is honestly a fun comedy that still holds up today. Love the wacky editing, it's like all the best elements from Breathless turned up to 11. From the way the music randomly cuts out to the insane lighting it is really a chaotic film. Kind of a musical at some points which really fits the tone of the film well. I also liked all the reference to other FNW films like Shoot the Piano Player it is kinda insane how historical and influential this film is in a way.
