I found this to be an incredible slog! Sorry!
Odd plot diversions that added nothing.
Characters signified as important who weren’t.
There are some very funny gags, but a lot of the dialogue that was intended as biting satire was just boring or corny.
This feels like a movie that was six hours long, that got cut to two hours and 15 minutes, but actually needed to be three hours to make sense? Which is a weird thing to say…

A Real Pain 2024
If you have someone like Culkin’s character in your life then perhaps you too will find this movie extremely provoking.
Perhaps you will also relate to Eisenberg’s character, who is both rightly envious of and embarrassed by this person and ashamed of both reactions. Their relationship brings out some good in him, and also drives him further into the uptight, closed off place place that he sees his cousin as a model for breaking free from.
The Culkin performance is incredible and natural, but this movie is brilliantly paced and both characters are wonderfully written.
