When a young artist comes to visit, the famous retired painter Frenhofer is persuaded to revisit an old abandoned project, called La belle noiseuse, with the young artist’s girlfriend as model. Jacques Rivette’s film is a beautiful exploration about the pain, struggle and limits of art.
