This certainly packs some awesome action. The theme is clear and well-crafted as a whole. And the acting is impressive all-around. I just couldn’t help but feel like it was a bit overstuffed, and did not leave enough time to explore some of the characters themselves. But that aside, this is a really impressive effort from Bong Joon Ho.

Damn. The themes all connect seamlessly, which was no small task. And it is simultaneously poignant, funny, and thought-provoking. Kieran Culkin delivers a truly Oscar-worthy performance, and his chemistry with Jesse Eisenberg is awesome. To Eisenberg’s credit, he also directs the hell out of this film. There are so many beautiful, meaningful shots. I think I need to go to Poland now. All in all, this is outstanding.

There are some really cool artistic shots for sure. And at least…a lot of the gore serves a purpose. Even if it’s really hard to watch at some points. And hard to watch out of frustration too. It’s all certainly disturbing, but I suppose that’s the point. Thematically, there’s nothing subtle about it, but it works. Demi Moore is outstanding, of course. And while the ending goes a bit off the rails, this no doubt provided a spectacle with some thought-provoking…substance.

The whole cast is impressive, and Zac Efron in particular is great. The story is touching as well as a nice tribute to wrestling, and really made me appreciate it more. And yeah. This is sad. But it never brought tears to my eyes like I expected, which is largely due to the second half’s constant state of gloominess, without offering too much more than that. While I think this stage of the story could have been told in a more poignant fashion, this was still a well-done film
