Only person in a 10:50 PM screening on what I think is the last day of its run here.

Sick as hell, of course. Looks like an Xbox 360 cinematic sometimes. The Animal has a gentle sincerity that fits really well in the PWSA métier. Part of why PWSA movies are so endearing is that you get the sense he has no idea his movies and his idea of cool aren't a universally beloved mainstream. There's no winking and no…

Surprisingly messy and even more surprisingly boring. Ruffalo is like, abjectly terrible here.

For a Baker this one needed some more time in the oven.

Edit: I saw this 6 days ago now? And initially just went for a pithy one-liner review but it's important to say this movie sucks. Misogynistic, one-note thuddingly repetitive, cruel and stupid and shrill, insincere and misplaced in its few attempts at empathy. Mikey Madison may know who Anora is as a character and what her life and world is like. Sean Baker doesn't, and doesn't seem too interested or curious about her.

A bland buzzfeed article about the original masterpiece, disguised as a sequel. Horror with all the beauty, erotic terror, messy tactile ambiguity, life, joy, etc squeezed out of it. Mostly just people standing in featureless rooms lecturing each other.

Nia DaCosta has fallen far from her already phoney, rich NYC kid take on rural poverty of a debut, the overrated Little Woods. That was bland and this is actively awful. One director I'm not sad to see sacrificed to the gods of MCU slop.
