    Genuinely hypnotic and funny in just how disjointed this film is. 

    The camera movements are precise and showcase a dazzling level of geometric intention that plays out as stage-like and theatrical, yet it consistently also breaks the 360 degree rule constantly and demonstrates a level of jump cuts and micro cutting that would not be out of place in À bout de souffle.     While Once a Thief may not have had the same impact as Woo’s other filmography, traces of his balletic gunplay and use of tracking shots, as well as a clear demonstration of his virtuosic talent for choreography and editing are in clear effect here, despite some pacing issues (and some editing disjunction) at the beginning.
