  This had all the ingredients of something I'd love, but it couldn't take its stars and its set and do anything with it. I watched this, though, admiring Gene Hackman's steady ability to show up and work with what he was given, and now I'm sad about him all over again.

  Is it fair to have issues with the way this movie treats its women? (And, you know, all the M:I women?) Yes. Did I also really enjoy it? Yes! Some nonsense dialogue, as you should expect from any M:I movie, but the action here is so smart and fun and reverential and fresh. That last train sequence could have gone on for another hour and I would not have complained.
