    elliott smith deep cut was the coolest part. bong joon ho’s fixation on surface level socdem social critique fits in snugly with the satirical sci-fi format’s natural leanings towards obvious conclusions on how Our current world is so bad, we’re basically aliens!!!!!!! mark ruffalo does a truly awful blatant trump impression that reads as vegas elvis performing in the weimar republic, down to the horribly design pseudo-swastika emblem (can’t imagine anything more shoving-political-opinions-down-audience-throats). robert pattinson does some truly charming work…

    this is what happens if you let someone who has never seen a movie before in their life try to make the next safdie brothers movie from 30-second youtube shorts of good time. genuinely nauseating camera work and the most ridiculous pacing, that first half hour is borderline unwatchable. boring script. acting is fine.

    quite moronic at times but overall well made. every beat is so familiar along the lines of the greater tradition in american cinema of hubristic projects (there will be blood comes to mind a couple different times), doesnt ever really seem to follow through on its ideas until it purposefully turns itself into a gimmick. felt a little overscored, all those hopeful piano trills became grating. felicity jones kills it.
