A policeman goes to a remote Scottish island to solve a missing person case and ends up in a folk (horror?) (musical?). It far exceeded my expectations, which were based on the idea of a slow-burn, atmospheric film probably best appreciated by Brits who can compare it to their least favourite rural town. Cure 1997
Confusingly, it’s probably the best detective film I’ve seen, bar Chinatown.
Confusing because it’s built on the premise of hypnotism, with the hint of the occult—bound together by an untrustworthy narrative that drags its heels at every opportunity. Anything short of perfection would probably mean it was messy, or just overtly pretentious. It avoids this—and then some.

Every time FKA Twigs delivers a line ripped from a fan fiction smut piece (in the chimney sweep voice), her hairline recedes.
