    Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Absolutely thrilling story sets the super-heroics in a science fiction spy-thriller and a personal drama between lost friends. It says a lot that a movie that introduces Falcon and the Winter Soldier with small cameos by Crossbones and Batroc the Leaper, and featuring Nick Fury and Black Widow doesn't feel bogged down in continuity or slow at all. This film is lightning fast, full of great character moments, deals with great human drama, uses incredible stunt work and fight choreography better than any superhero film before it. An excellent film that just so happens to be a superhero movie.

The story is paper-thin and Loki is almost de-characterised from his appearance in Thor, made into a straight, cackling villain of the week. But the writing for the protagonists and the performances bring the whole franchise home. Everybody seems to know they're on board for something special and they deliver the goods with style. The Battle of New York feels a bit like the Avengers vs Faceless Nobodies but it's a showcase of exactly what fans wanted to see. Rampaging Hulk, Iron Man dynamics, Thor in all his glory and Captain America being Captain America. Really good and a lot of fun.

Fun and often-hilarious third film in the Thor series (not including his Avengers films). Thor is allowed to be more comedic and relaxed and the whole film opens up a thousand times for it. The villain is suitably intimidating but she felt one dimensional. The Hulk is finally fleshed out as a real character with feelings and personality. Loki is the best he's ever been and the background characters are a delight. A fun, hyper-imaginative story that takes what could have been a depressing finale to the Thor trilogy and turned it into something exciting and different.

    Avengers: Infinity War

    ★★★★

Surprisingly tight and original space opera of a giant purple man who desires magic stones vs gods, robot-wearing billionaires, teenagers bitten by spiders and super soldiers. Lots of great dialogue and fun character moments punctuate a bleak and horrific character study. Rewatch value 10/10. High entertainment.
