The one shot drew me in during episode one it almost pushed me all the way out in episode two and by the time episode three started I really didn’t know what I thought about any of it. then something happened about 30 minutes in that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and it all clicked for me. when the last sequence of episode four played out I had tears in both of my eyes.

this is what prestige television is all about.

this is a far from perfect film. there’s like a 25 minute stretch that is pretty bland, the cgi was dated the second it hit theatres, and the little kid is annoying as hell. BUT THE THING IS… every set piece absolutely COOKS. everything you ever wanted from a summer blockbuster exists in this film.

Once the mummy starts mummying this movie slaps so hard. a true gateway horror movie for me as a small child.

Like Challengers, if this had been 100 minutes, it would have been my favourite movie of the year. As it stands, it’s a good movie with a perfect ending scene that elevates the entire thing. Mikey Madison is award worthy. The cinematography and some of the editing is stunning, but I didn’t think there was enough there to satisfy the over 2 hour run time.
