  Michael Mann is one of my favorite living American directors. He is probably the greatest stylist in contemporary cinema, but his films are always more than just formal experiments.
  In Collateral he creates a nocturnal space that is both poetic and menacing, and even with its flawed third act, Mann's film is a near cinematic masterpiece.
