Delightful experiment by a filmmaker clearly excited by what he can do. Not very effective as a critique of true crime, given that it falls into its own critique. A documentary that really wanted to be a music video, clearly influenced by Kenneth Anger and Derek Jarman. Tilda is lovely as always

Excellent in examining its subjects, a treasure trove, particularly in the variety of interviewees. When speaking with fascists, Ophuls gives them enough rope with which to hang themselves and their comrades

It's a Wonderful Life 1946
Sentimental sop once again arguing for the superiority of suburbanite WASPs; deeply racist undercurrent. The whole message of the film "don't desire a better life. just stick in your crummy dead town and sacrifice yourself for the vulgus"
