it isn't always easy or right for a very-much slapstick comedy series to make the jump into being something serious – or, even more dangerously, legitimately challenging and thematically mature. the filmmakers and writers in charge of queen Rumiko's Urusei Yatsura animations have succeeded in making that leap often, and it's hard to pin down exactly what makes this hilarious little comic so prone to these contemplative side-steps.
