With unsurprisingly gorgeous visuals, a flawlessly crafted soundtrack, and the return of spectacular voice talent, Across the Spider-verse almost lives up to its potential as a sequel to, for my money, the best superhero film to date. Unfortunately, it buckles a little under its own weight. In an effort to tell an epic and emotionally compelling story, it largely forgoes being fun. I can only hope that once part two finally releases, it sticks the landing set up by this film.
