I love that this film is less interested in "coming of age" as a series of lessons and more interested in the resilience of kids, how adults draw strength from that, and how some take advantage of it. And I love that in the end Jamie is able to recognize when those relationships are purely transactional.

Miyazaki feels like a young boy through this whole documentary. He's quiet and thoughtful and oddly desperate for acknowledgement, and much more receptive when he gets it! Seeing him shave his beard at the end is completing the transformation. He looks old and young all at once.
