    Wicked

    ★★½

Technically magnificent, but ultimately sterile. You can feel every minute of the runtime.

There's one cameo that serves to both give the movie life and yet undermine the entire purpose of making a movie of this show.

    Despicable Me 4

    ★½

While it seems silly to judge this kind of a movie based on its plot, the fact is that Despicable Me 4 is a 94 minute pile of contrivances. One thing only connects to the next because the movie forces it to, except for a couple of filler C-plots, and you can already see new characters being brought into the Minions Expanded Universe.

I would have rather watched this as a series of webisodes on a streaming platform. At least the A/C at the theater was nice.

    Postcard From Earth

    A technical marvel.

On the plot, a) I'd rather watch WALL-E and b) the Earth will kill us all before we kill the Earth.

Jason Isbell: Running With Our Eyes Closed

    ★★★★

A fascinating portrait. If you're familiar with Isbell, there's still a lot to add, and if you're not, it's a good way into this world.

What could be soft focus instead goes deep on uncomfortable topics, and paints its subject in a very poor light at times. The documentary also has to deal with the impact of COVID, and does so in a tasteful and even humorous manner. It's going to be a fact of life as we look back…
