Man, what an incredibly haunting yet darkly comedic telling of domestic violence and quiet rebellion in post-war Italy. Paola Cortellesi is great pulling triple-duty as director, writer, and leading actress and Romana Maggiora Vergano really shines as her daughter as well. The ending is one of the best I’ve seen in years and I hope that someday somebody else that I know sees this so that we can talk about it.

Not to say that he isn’t great in Notting Hill or Love Actually, but Hugh Grant is absolutely in the peak of his career right now and this may be his best performance yet. Chloe East and Sophie Thatcher are both great as well and the atmosphere and tone of the film are perfect throughout. Would make for a great double feature with Conclave.
