While I do generally agree with the sentiment of the movie I didn’t really like the execution. I don’t really think there’s a lot of room for interpretation and the movie makes its stance obvious by just saying it. It is crazy to think that it’s almost 50 years later and the points of the movie still stand today.

I thought the concept was interesting but the execution left a lot to be desired. The only other Bong Joon Ho movie I’ve seen is Parasite which I fear I may have set the bar a bit too high for this. I was really expecting some hard hitting nuanced social commentary but this felt very surface level. This is especially true of Mark Ruffalo’s character, the Trump parallels were way too on the nose for me. Maybe I’m not looking deep enough between the lines or maybe I just didn’t get it. Strong performances all around but I felt many of the side characters fell flat.
