Experimental horror in every sense. Sitting alone at home in the dark just past when I would usually crash. Airpods in with noise cancellation on. Big screen in a dark living room is flickering from the moody shots of this film lighting my space with deep strobing blues and reds. The whole thing is like old VHS footage from our camcorders, but if we were filming something very off. The framing, the time of night, the way time moves in…

Pumpkinhead 1988
This is now a favorite after this viewing. Pairing with an Upslope Pumkin Ale was a good choice. I love everything about this movie. I love the music in this right from the title card. Harmonica meets pure horror. The story opens in 1957 on the farms. Right off the bat the red in their house vs the dark blue cuts to a man running in woods and into cornfields with something terrifying in pursuit sets the whole mood for the…

After Hours 1985
The ultimate film about sleep deprivation. This is a black comedy gem of a mood piece. That feeling when you've bee awake way too long and none of the things happening add up.

Forrest Gump 1994
A perfect film, but not in the Hollywood tied up with a bow way. The characters are all imperfect in such a well done way. The story is so fantastical and yet relatable and slice of life. I forgot how much I love this film. It's become such a cliche with all the quotes and memes over the years, but there's a reason people still talk about this film.

Terrifier 2 2022
THAT. Is how you do a sequel. Wow. All Hallow’s Eve was good. That’s where Damien started to play with the idea of Art the Clown. Terrifier was great. That was Art coming to life and becoming the monster he is. Terrifier 2 is peak Art. This is turned up to 12. Seeing this in the theater as the clock passed midnight was a treat that made my spooky season complete this year. If you have the chance, do NOT miss…

The Company of Wolves 1984
Fairy tale AF. I absolutely loved the set pieces and mood of this entire film. It’s like a disturbing werewolf remix of The Neverending Story. There is so much suggestion and allegory in the nightmarish imagery in this. It’s a fever dream of short tales with a solid wrap around. Unique werewolf transformations, spiders falling into laps from the ceiling, snakes and wolves coming after red riding hood from the woods, all throughout a series of mini tales of folk…
