Watched on Canon.
Pretty goofy but still fun. The music is great.
Nothing compares to the book, but this is still better than Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, which is a low bar.

The Philadelphia Story 1940
Hello, friends and enemies.
Peak Old Hollywood. Masterfully and thoughtfully written/directed/acted (how is it possible every actor is a scene-stealer?). Exploring class and wealth, marriage and divorce, men and women in a way completely foreign to today’s films and broader culture. The creep of modernity was well established by 1940, but the Old world was still in touching distance. When we watch films like these we see what was taken for granted as common place.
If we ask ourselves why they don’t make them like they used to, maybe we got what we deserved.

Unforgiven 1992
I ain't like that no more.
A deeply cynical view of the American West and man’s ability to change. Some very admirable aspects here but Eastwood has always had a tendency to be heavy-handed and there’s no exception here.
Ultimately another example of Hollywood despising how we got here and transposing post-modernism onto everything.
