I didn’t agree with every choice Salles made here, but the history is so important, and Torres is so good that it was easy to forgive. One of my relatives, Chael Schreier, was tortured and killed by the Brazilian military in a very similar manner to Rubens Paiva. I do hope this movie sparks some additional interest in shining a light on the cruelty of the dictatorship and stories like Chael’s.
