  Goddamnit Soderbergh’s in this mode is always so air tight and efficient, and I mean that in the best way. Zippy and electric every moment is intentional but still unfolding at the perfect pace. And his dialogue I mean! Nobody moves more deftly through a conversation, with equal parts comedy and drama and sleek and sexy.   Maybe this is an unavoidable pitfall that all directors fall into the further they get in their careers, but this really suffers from retreading ideas and plot devices of his previous, more focused and ultimately more successful, movies. It’s not unsuccessful, but I was terribly bored for most of it and the jokes were tonally off putting or total misfires, weighing down an already bleak setup.   Came for lesbians. Got a very interesting  exploration of the predatory nature and power imbalance of age gap relationships with teens despite best intentions. Spoiler alert, they’re bad!! No matter what!! (CMBYN heavily subtweeted) I didn’t have a good time but I’m not mad about it! Cinematography was GORGEOUS so 1 Star for that.
