Okay do we talk about Resnais enough? Like this is the Art Cinema I need in my life. Intriguing and vague without being exhausting, inexplicably gorgeous or graceful or extremely well-composed in every shot, an equal parts ominous and somber score — and Delhpine Seyrig is a little overwhelming, frankly. Like the entire time she's onscreen. And once it's over. She might be the secret here. Like she is already a fixture of my own non-diegetic memory. I might be thinking about her in this movie next year.

On paper, this is — in literally every way — Not For Me™. But look: I laughed my ass off while sitting in a row of friends who were laughing their ass off while we were in a crowd of people laughing their ass off. There were no asses left in the wake of this, frankly.
I don't even know how to rate this as a movie, but the experience was — at a minimum — 5 stars. On 35mm too.
